Frequently asked questions
As a patient, can I order products and appliances directly from Savaria-Dent?
Patients can order orthodontic appliances and products only through their doctors and therapists, and cannot purchase directly from us.
Orthodontics is a highly specialised field that requires a high level of expertise. Only with the assistance of a doctor can the correct choice of appliances and professional treatment be ensured. A wrong choice or the use of an inappropriate appliance can lead to serious errors and health problems that can negatively affect the success of treatment and patient satisfaction.
By taking this approach, we can guarantee the best results and patient safety.
For any complaints, questions, requests or assistance, please contact your specialist or therapist.
As a speech therapist, can I order U Concept Trainers for therapy sessions?
Yes, as a speech therapist, you have the opportunity to order U Concept Trainers for therapeutic treatments. These tools have been specifically developed to support early interventions and can effectively assist in correcting speech and oral function issues in young children.
Speech therapists are often the first professionals to encounter children with difficulties such as tongue thrust swallowing, articulation disorders, or weak oral muscles. The U Concept Biotrainer can be an excellent complementary therapeutic tool, helping to develop proper muscle function and correct speech development issues.
If you would like to learn more about the products, their applications, or the ordering process, please feel free to contact us—we’re happy to help!
Where and how can I order a U Concept trainer?
U Concept trainers are only available through professionals - orthodontists, dentists, speech therapists, developmental therapists. The products in the U Concept trainer family are medical devices, and selecting the right device requires detailed diagnosis. It is essential to check that the device fits properly in the mouth and, if necessary, to adapt it.
To help you find the right professional, you can use the ever-expanding Specialist Finder on the U Concept website.
What professionals can help with trainer treatment?
Orthodontists, dentists, pediatric dentists, speech therapists, developmental therapists, and in some cases, ear, nose, and throat specialists can also help develop a treatment plan and select the appropriate trainer.
What is the right daily wearing time? Is it enough to wear only at night?
To achieve the desired effect, wearing the carrier "only" at night is not enough in the beginning. During the initial period, it is essential to wear the trainer for 1-2 hours during the day. It is recommended to wear it for 10-12 hours a day, which includes the child's sleeping time and 1-2 hours of daytime wear. An additional beneficial effect of wearing the trainer during the day is the harmonization of the necessary muscle functions.
How do we know if another device is needed? How often do you need to change it?
The replacement of the device will be suggested by the technician during the check-ups.
The need for replacement may be due to development, growth, or if the device becomes excessively worn due to wear or other problems (e.g. chafing). If there is visible damage to the device, consult your doctor immediately.
The need to replace the device depends entirely on the individual, and may be every 6 or even 18 months.
What should you do if you see chewing marks on the appliance or if your child chews the trainer?
It is forbidden to chew on trainers, this is extremely important!
Chewing can indicate a number of things. Primarily, it can be a behavioral problem, but it can also be a sign of stress, bruxism, or simply that the device is new and unfamiliar.
If there are bite marks, observe your child so that you can inform the treating physician about the cause of these bite marks on the device. Chewing marks are also common in cases of teeth grinding (bruxism), but they can also occur in the initial phase, during the adjustment period. Talk to your child about the consequences of chewing on the device and help them develop the correct wearing mechanism.
Are there cases where the use of a trainer is not recommended?
Discontinue use in case of severe respiratory tract infections, colds, especially if the illness is accompanied by nasal congestion. Wait for full recovery before using again. Help your child recover by regularly washing their nose. If necessary, and to help your child recover as quickly as possible, wash their nose several times a day with salt water or a saline solution.A few days or weeks off - if not long-lasting and regular - will not hamper treatment.
Trainer treatment is not recommended in cases of severe bruxism or allergies to silicone.
What should I do if the device goes off more than once during the night?
This may be natural at first. Remember, this is a new and unfamiliar thing in the mouth, and getting used to it will take some time, regularity, patience and persistence. In order to achieve stable nighttime wear as soon as possible, it is important to wear the device regularly during the day so that the muscles and mouth can get used to it.
Cleaning and clearing the nasal passages before putting the device in your mouth and blowing your nose before going to bed can help prevent it from falling out.
If it keeps falling out at night, be sure to tell your doctor. or your specialist.
Is it possible to choose a coloured trainer?
The U Concept trainer range is available in two hardnesses - 30 and 50 Shore - and three colours. The softer 30 shore trainers are available in transparent (clear, water clear), blue and pink, while the harder 50 shore trainers are available in transparent only.
How long will it take to get the trainer?
The transfer time depends on the treatment protocol of the clinic or specialist. If the specialist or practitioner considers that other tests, such as x-rays, are necessary for your child's health, the appliance can only be given to you afterwards.
If no further tests are required, the U trainer device can be adapted and picked up immediately from the specialist. If the required size or type of device is not available, it can be delivered from our company to our specialist partners in Hungary within 1-2 working days.
Besides wearing the trainer, are there any other tasks or exercises that can help?
Yes! In fact! Myofunctional exercises are not only recommended, but are an essential complement to effective treatment in order to make it truly effective and successful.
The exercises — which are selected by a specialist — are available for download at uconcept.eu, but specialists in the field may also teach additional problem-specific exercises during checkups to ensure successful treatment.
How can we as parents help with regular use?
As parents, it is important to emphasize and help our children understand – in language appropriate for their age – that this new device can really help them. Let's be patient, because this device is a new, unfamiliar thing in his mouth, and it will take time, patience, and a lot of perseverance to get used to it.
Be consistent, praise them often, and even reward them for wearing and cleaning the device. Be sure to incorporate it into their daily routine (e.g., wearing it during story time, drawing, or watching TV), and be sure to check at the beginning to see if they are wearing the trainer and wearing it correctly.
Be aware of any problems! If the discomfort lasts longer than usual, or if it causes bleeding of the gums or other areas of the mouth, be sure to consult your doctor or specialist immediately.
Is there a warranty for U Concept devices?
6 months for manufacturing defects.
The warranty does not cover any tears caused by chewing, so please take care to prevent this from happening to your child.
What should you do if your child finds the device uncomfortable?
Be sure to discuss this with your specialist. Sometimes it just takes time to get used to it, as it is a new and unfamiliar object in the child's mouth, which may cause some discomfort at first. However, the device may break or press on certain parts during wear, so it must be customized, or a different size or type may be required. This is always decided by the attending physician or specialist who prescribes the device.
How should the device be kept clean?
To maintain the condition of the device, it should be rinsed under running water after each use. For practical and hygienic reasons, it is advisable to keep the device in its own storage box, so you can pick it up and take it with you whenever you travel. It is advisable to leave the storage box open while drying.
Once a day – after nighttime use – wash it thoroughly with a toothbrush. Once a week, or after an upper respiratory tract or oral infection, be sure to disinfect it by boiling it in distilled water for 2-3 minutes.
During the cleaning process, we also check the device. If you find any cracks, report them to a specialist.
Is it necessary to have an examination performed by a specialist before starting treatment with a trainer?
Yes! If you suspect any problems with your child that could be solved by a trainer, consult a specialist (orthodontist, dentist, speech therapist) who will conduct a thorough assessment and recommend the appropriate therapy or device.
The muscles around the mouth, the position of the tongue, and the position of the teeth are not only responsible for a beautiful smile, but can also affect the quality of sleep, speech, posture, and even concentration.
How long does it take to see improvement?
This varies greatly, of course. It depends on the problem at hand, age, and frequency of wear. The degree of improvement is individual. In some cases, visible changes can be achieved after 2-3 months, but it usually takes 6-8 months to see a noticeable, often dramatic change. It is advisable to document the change at home with photos at regular intervals, either weekly or monthly. This can often provide inspiration and motivation for regular wearing.
How often should I go for a check-up?
This depends entirely on your doctor or specialist, as well as your child's age, the problem at hand, and any other treatments. Typically, check-ups with the trainer take place every 2-3 months, but your doctor may recommend a different frequency.
Is there a user manual for the trainer?
The use of the device is always determined by the specialist or attending physician, taking into account all of the patient's parameters. Of course, the device also comes with a general user manual.
Additional information and videos are available on the uconcept.eu website under the Documents menu item.
Where can we find information about trainers?
How and where can we find professionals who offer trainer treatment?
You can search for our trainer professionals by name and location in the constantly expanding professional search engine at uconcept.eu. It is also worth searching for UConcept on social media, where many excellent professionals share useful content and practical advice.
Where can we find information about selecting exercises and determining their order?
This is always tailored to the individual and is determined by the treating professional (orthodontist, speech therapist).
The information booklet containing myofunctional exercises can be helpful.
Are the exercises available in downloadable format?
Yes, our information booklet containing recommended myofunctional exercises is available in downloadable format on the uconcept.eu website. Useful content and exercises to help improve the effectiveness of treatment are continuously uploaded to the U Concept YouTube channel.
What should you do if you see signs of damage, discoloration, or deformation on the trainer?
Stop using it and consult a specialist as soon as possible! A damaged device often will not function properly and may even be dangerous. Your doctor or specialist will provide you with information about the warranty.
At what age should you first consult with specialists?
As soon as we suspect a problem, it is advisable to consult a specialist immediately in order to prevent more complex problems later on. It is advisable to find a specialist who is experienced in treating young children.
U Concept trainers can be used from the age of 3 to correct dental abnormalities and mouth breathing, improve tongue position and thus speech intelligibility, and strengthen the muscles around the mouth. All of these can have a positive impact on a child's daily life, improving their self-confidence, posture, sleep quality, and concentration.
Is sampling necessary to select the appropriate trainer?
Not in all cases.
Generally, a thorough examination of the oral cavity and bite (occlusion) is sufficient for the specialist, but in some situations, sampling may also be necessary. Sampling involves a simple and quick impression taken in dentistry, after which the appropriate device can be selected with precision.
Can trying out or selecting a trainer cause pain or discomfort?
Like other myofunctional trainers, the devices in the U Concept trainer family may seem a little uncomfortable and cause some discomfort when first used. Keep in mind that you are putting something new and unfamiliar in your mouth, which will take some time, patience, and perseverance to get used to. This will pass completely over time, and its use will become natural.
It is precisely to avoid discomfort that our U Concept trainer products are made from silicone, making them much more comfortable to wear.
In case of discomfort or mild pain, reduce the wearing time until the pain subsides, then gradually return to regular use.
However, if the discomfort persists and does not subside, or if it causes redness, breaks the gums or oral mucosa, or causes other allergic reactions, be sure to consult your doctor or speech therapist so that the device can be properly adapted to the patient or, if necessary, a different type or size of device can be selected.
Are there any medical conditions that would prevent the use of the trainer?
The U Concept trainer is not recommended for use in cases of upper respiratory tract disease accompanied by severe nasal congestion, nasal septum deviation, or complete inability to breathe through the nose due to nasal polyps (very rare), or in cases of untreated cleft palate. In cases of neurological or muscular dysfunction, consult a specialist about the possibility of trainer treatment.
One of the main considerations for trainer treatment is that it should only be used in cases where there are no physical obstacles to nasal breathing or oral muscle function.
How many appointments with the specialist are needed before we receive the appropriate traine?
The first step for every specialist is diagnosis (assessment of condition, bite, breathing, habits, etc.), which forms the basis for selecting the right therapy and device. Once an accurate diagnosis has been made and agreed with the parent, the appropriate U Concept device can be selected, tried out and handed over immediately.
So, if the specialist has a U Concept trainer in stock, you can take it home with you after the first appointment.
If your specialist does not have the right device in stock, you can expect a delivery time of 1-2 business days, and you can pick up the device at your next consultation.
However, if the specialist or doctor deems it necessary, they may request additional tests, such as an X-ray, before handing over the trainer, in which case the trainer will only be handed over after these tests have been performed.
How can we use the device at home? How long will it take for my child to be able to insert the trainer correctly on their own?
Children usually learn to use the device confidently at home within a few days, but parental assistance and supervision are still necessary during the first few days. Check that the device is inserted in the correct direction in the mouth and that it is cleaned and stored properly. With adequate parental support, they will be able to use the trainer completely independently and incorporate it into their daily routine within 2–3 weeks.
As a parent, how often should I check that the device is positioned correctly in my child's mouth?
The first few weeks should definitely be about getting used to it and learning. During this period, it is worth working with the trainer together – using it, cleaning it – and checking more often that everything is okay with wearing it, that the device is in the right position in the mouth, and that wearing it does not cause any problems.
Later, it is enough to check 1-2 times a week to make sure that the trainer does not fall out of the mouth at night, that there are no signs of damage, and that the child is not biting it.
What activities at home can it be used for?
During calm, passive periods: reading, drawing, watching TV, using the computer, playing games.
It is important that the child does not talk, eat, or chew on the device while wearing the trainer!
What should you pay attention to when the trainer is in your child's mouth?
Don’t talk while wearing the device, don’t bite or chew on it, and don’t jump around while wearing it.
Most importantly, the child must keep their lips closed. At the same time, they should lift their tongue to the roof of their mouth and bite down lightly on the device with their teeth. This will ensure that the child breathes correctly through their nose.
The device shouldn’t move in the mouth while swallowing.
What motivational tools can we use to help?
Trainer treatment is somewhat similar to school. It is typically a longer-term type of treatment, so patience and perseverance are required on the part of both the child and the parent. However, persistent use brings the expected results and success, which is a motivating factor in itself.
During treatment, we should definitely motivate and support our children to wear the appliance actively. For younger children, a sticker, a book, or some kind of personalized reward system can be a source of motivation.
lder children can be explained the benefits of the results achieved, e.g., how much nicer their smile will be, how they will be able to pay more attention in school, how their athletic performance will improve if they breathe through their nose, how their braces will be fixed for a shorter period of time, etc.
How hard is the device?
The U Concept trainer family devices are available in two hardnesses – 30 and 50 Shore.
The softer, 30 Shore version provides greater comfort and is easier to get used to, which is key to effectiveness, as trainers only work when used regularly. The 50 Shore version is more resistant to stress-induced teeth grinding, so children chew through the device more slowly.
According to the recommended protocol, it is advisable to start treatment with a Shore 30 (softer) device and switch to a Shore 50 device if necessary (frequent chewing).
Should I keep the trainer box and user manual?
It is advisable to keep the plastic storage box and store the trainer in it when not in use. It is advisable to keep the user manual, which contains important hygiene and usage information, but it can be downloaded from our website uconcept.eu at any time.
Where can we find information about the manufacturer of the product?
The developer and manufacturer of U Concept trainers is Savaria-Dent Kft. Since its foundation in 1990, our company has been distributing orthodontic products to orthodontists and their reseller partners. Our own orthodontic products are manufactured at our Hungarian facilities in Szombathely, from where they are shipped to many locations around the world.

What can you expect during a check-up? How should you prepare?
Be sure to bring your clean device in its box with you to the control test. Your doctor or speech therapist will check your trainer in your mouth to see if it fits properly and, if necessary, choose a different type or size of device.
No special preparation is necessary for the check-up, just bring yourself and your trainer. 😊
How is the initial assessment carried out? What should we tell the child about it?
The specialist will assess the child's general and dental condition, as well as the position of the upper and lower dental arches in relation to each other. They will also examine the position of the tongue at rest and during swallowing.
The effectiveness of nasal breathing will be checked, and some photos of the mouth and face may be taken for documentation purposes.
The examination is painless!

What should we do if we notice a problem with the device or encounter any difficulties?
- If the device breaks, cracks, or becomes deformed: stop using it immediately, put it back in its box, and contact your doctor or specialist. Be sure to take it with you to your next consultation.
-
If it causes pain, soreness, or chafing: temporarily reduce the wearing time and be sure to consult a specialist. If possible, take a photo of the problem area or make a note of exactly where the device is causing problems. This will make it easier for the specialist and the child to adapt the device. If necessary, a different size or type can be selected.
-
If your child is very resistant to wearing the trainer, try to find out the reason—is it uncomfortable, does it fit poorly, or are they tired? Talk to them about it in a calm environment and help them understand why this device is necessary and what benefits regular use of the device can bring.
-
IMPORTANT: Never attempt to adapt or glue the device at home!
Can it be used during tooth replacement?
Yes, in fact, in most cases it is particularly beneficial! The tooth replacement period (ages 6–12) is when the teeth and jawbones are malleable, and bad habits (e.g., mouth breathing, improper swallowing) can be corrected particularly well.
Don't worry if teeth grow out or move during this time, as this is a natural process. The trainer helps to "guide" the dental arches and muscle work in the optimal direction during this period.
If the new tooth is hidden in front of/behind/out of alignment with the dental arch, can the trainer be used?
Yes, in fact, it is particularly useful in such situations. The trainer helps to align and regulate the position of the teeth and supports the natural process of tooth replacement.
As a parent, it is important to ensure that the trainer is worn regularly during tooth replacement, as this will achieve the best results!
Also make sure that the teeth are positioned inside the trainer. If a permanent tooth emerges extremely early, always check that it is positioned "inside" the trainer so that the edge of the trainer does not prevent it from erupting.
If the permanent tooth begins to erupt before the baby tooth has fallen out, immediately notify the dentist. It is usually advisable to remove these baby teeth within a short period of time so that they do not interfere with the eruption of the permanent tooth.
Do I need any equipment for the exercises?
- Some myofunctional exercises may require different equipment, but all of them can be found in every home and do not require any special items.
Your chosen doctor or speech therapist, as well as the Exercise Information Booklet developed for U Concept trainers, will help you select exercises tailored to your specific needs.
It is a good idea to incorporate these exercises into your daily routine (e.g., before bedtime) and even practice them together with your child in a playful way.
- Why are myofunctional exercises important in addition to the trainer?
The trainer itself is an "aid," but active myofunctional exercises (muscle training) are what make the treatment truly effective. Their purpose is to:- 🌬️Strengthening nasal breathing – helps to develop healthy breathing patterns, which are key to the development of the palate and jawbone.
- 👅 Improving tongue position – the correct resting position of the tongue (on the palate) supports the expansion of the dental arches and the proper growth of the jawbone.
- 👄 Strengthening lip closure – helps prevent open bite and promotes harmonious development of facial muscles;
- 💪 Training the muscles around the face and mouth – improves speech, swallowing, and chewing.
- How does the child benefit from this?
- Faster, more stable treatment results
- Reduced chance of relapse after treatment
- Harmonious facial development
- Healthy breathing, swallowing, and muscle function.
Are there any harmful side effects associated with wearing the device?
With proper selection, correct use, and regular professional monitoring, there are no harmful effects associated with the use of trainers.
What should parents pay attention to?
- At first, you should check that your child is using it correctly (correct direction, mouth closed, breathing through the nose).
- If the child chews or bites the device, help them to wear it correctly. Consult your doctor or specialist.
- Incorrect use (e.g., with the mouth open, without breathing through the nose) may reduce effectiveness.
Up to what age can the trainer be used? Is it only recommended for preschool and elementary school children?
The trainer is ideal for ages 4–12, but certain types (UBrace, UPilot) can also be used effectively for teenagers and even adults. The specialist will decide on the most appropriate treatment for the patient at their given age.
IMPORTANT: The earlier we start treatment, the more deformation we can prevent, making any fixed treatment that may be necessary later on easier, more effective, and more stable!
Is it enough to buy one device? Or can it wear out if the child wears it for a long time?
The lifespan of the device depends largely on how the child treats it. If they do not chew or deform it, it can work well for months or even years if used correctly.
However, if you notice any bite marks, cracks, or tears, talk to your specialist as soon as possible, as in some cases the device will need to be replaced.
Parental task: Check the condition of the device regularly (once a week) and notify your doctor, specialist if you notice any damage!
How can I find out who offers trainer therapy in my area?
The distributor search engine on the uconcept.eu website is a quick and reliable solution, allowing you to search by field of expertise, county, town, and name. The list is constantly expanding.
Is it possible that the softer trainer is not suitable for us?
It may happen that a softer trainer is not suitable, which is why we produce U Concept trainers in two hardnesses (30 and 50 Shore).
Shore 30 devices are very comfortable due to their softness, which also helps with the adjustment phase. However, due to this same characteristic, they are more susceptible to chewing than Shore 50 devices if used incorrectly (cutting). According to the recommended protocol, it is advisable to start treatment with the softer Shore 30 device and switch to the Shore 50 device if necessary (frequent chewing).
Trust the professional's decision: gradual progression is important, but choosing the optimal material strength is a professional matter.
How can you check whether your child is breathing through their nose? What should you do if something is wrong?
If you notice that your child's mouth is often open during the day and their lips are chapped, this may indicate that they breathe mainly or always through their mouth. An open – gaping – mouth is particularly noticeable during the day, when they are engrossed in playing, drawing, or watching TV.
If your child's mouth is typically open in a way that you consider "cute" when sleeping, this is also a clear sign of mouth breathing. In these cases, it is advisable to consult an orthodontist and an ear, nose, and throat specialist to check the size and condition of the tonsils.
When does trainer treatment end?
- The aim of the treatment is to restore basic functions (nasal breathing, correct swallowing, lip closure) and ensure the harmonious development of the dental arches and jawbones. The trainer also helps to ensure the correct positioning of the erupting teeth.
Of course, the duration of trainer treatment depends on age, the nature of the deviation, and the desired goal.
⏳ General duration: 6–18 months, but this depends entirely on individual characteristics, cooperation, and the stage of tooth replacement (for informational purposes only).
🎯 Closure: The treating professional decides when treatment ends and whether other treatment methods or maintenance devices are necessary for a stable outcome.
TIP: Regular wear + myofunctional exercises are the keys to success, which can shorten treatment time.
Why are myofunctional exercises important in addition to the trainer?
The trainer itself is an "aid," but active myofunctional exercises (muscle training) are what make the treatment truly effective. Their purpose is to:
- 🌬️ Strengthening nasal breathing – helps develop healthy breathing patterns, which are key to the development of the palate and jawbone;
- 👅 Improving tongue position – the correct resting position of the tongue (on the palate) supports the expansion of the dental arches and the proper growth of the jawbone;
- 👄 Strengthening lip closure – helps prevent open bite and promotes harmonious development of facial muscles;
- 💪 Training the muscles around the face and mouth – improves speech, swallowing, and eating.
How does your child benefit from this?
- Faster, more stable results
- Reduced chance of relapse after treatment
- Harmonious facial development
- Healthy breathing, swallowing, and muscle function
It is worth incorporating these exercises into your daily routine (e.g., before bedtime) and even practicing them together with your child in a playful way.
